Mancini still makes Manchester United favourites for Premier League title

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has insisted Manchester United are still favourites to win the Premier League title despite seeing his side defeat the reigning champions 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium, the BBC has reported.

A Vincent Kompany goal late in the first-half was enough to give City the victory and take the team top of the table on goal difference with two games to play. But Mancini has said the identity of each side’s last two opponents means United are still favourites for the title. Whereas City travel to Champions League chasing Newcastle United and relegation-threatened Queens Park Rangers, United face two sides with little tangible left to play for, Swansea City and Sunderland.

Mancini said: “It's a great victory but we have two difficult games left and United have two easy games. We now have the chance for the title in our hands. Manchester United are still favourites. Swansea and Sunderland have nothing to play for.

Ironically, both City and United travel to grounds where their rivals have come unstuck at different points this season. City face Newcastle this weekend and United suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Sports Direct Arena earlier in the campaign, while on the final day of the season United go to Sunderland’s Stadium of Light, the site of a late Black Cats victory over City on New Year’s Day.
