Manchester City have played the best football, insists Mancini
On the eve of the final day of the Premier League season, when Manchester City’s first title since 1968 could be confirmed with victory over Queens Park Rangers, the manager Roberto Mancini has revealed he believes his side have played the best football in the top flight, Sports Illustrated has reported.
City have scored 90 goals in their 37 league games thus far, conceding only 27 in the process, bettering the record of local rivals and nearest challengers Manchester United, who have 88 in the goals for column and 33 in the goals against column. That eight goal swing has proved decisive at the season’s end, as it is all that separates the sides going in to the last round of fixtures of the 2011-12 campaign.
United have to better City’s result against QPR with their own at Sunderland to stand any chance of retaining the league title, but a City win over the relegation-threatened R’s will render United’s score line meaningless. Mancini said: “I’m very proud because I think my players worked very well this year. Maybe on Sunday we don’t win the title, but we have played the best football in England.”
