Arsenal legend Wright to join MK Dons coaching staff

Friday 18 May 2012

Ian Wright will take his first steps in the world of coaching by joining League One side MK Dons as a coach, the BBC has reported. The former Arsenal striker will work with the forwards under manager Karl Robinson.

Wright worked on an informal basis with the club earlier in the season but has joined now in an official capacity, as has former Wimbledon and Luton Town striker Mick Harford, who replaces the retiring John Gorman as assistant manager.

Yet to obtain all his necessary coaching qualifications, Wright will only work with MK Dons through the week due to his weekend media commitments while he continues his coaching courses. Robinson noted that Wright will attend all MK Dons’ midweek games.

Wright scored 185 goals in 288 games for Arsenal, becoming the club’s record goal scorer until he was surpassed by Thierry Henry. Wright also won 33 England caps, scoring nine goals, and played for Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Celtic, amongst others.
