Man Utd on alert as Huntelaar release clause revealed
Manchester United have been put on high alert after German side Schalke 04 confirmed their Dutch striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has a buy-out clause in his contract according to the Daily Mail .
The 28-year-old former Ajax star has settled in Germany following less than impressive spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan. Huntelaar has scored 37 goals in 53 appearances and the form mirroring his promising youth career has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League.
Manchester United have been long term admirers of the forward, and with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to strengthen his squad, a move for Huntelaar could be viable after comments made by Schalke’s general manager Horst Heldt confirming the existence of a buy-out clause in the Dutchman’s contract which expires next summer.
Speaking to German newspaper Bild Heldt said: 'Huntelaar does have a €20 million buyout clause, and the rich club can afford it’, sparking rumours of a move to the Manchester side.
With potential suitors across Europe, Huntelaar is sure to have many offers given the relatively low buy-out clause. Whilst his form at Schalke has been good, the striker has failed to settle in two out of the top three leagues in Europe with Real Madrid and AC Milan scoring just 15 goals combined.
United remain a firm contender for Huntelaar’s signature, however when quizzed on a potential return to Spain, Heldt said: “I do not think he wants to go there. What would he do there? Since nothing more than the weather is better.”
