Saturday 16 June 2012

Serie A side Fiorentina have admitted that they are totally in the dark over whether striker, and Chelsea target, Stefan Jovetic will remain at the club, The Independent reports.

Reports have suggested that the Blues’ interest in the Serbian international is serious and they have had a £20m bid rejected by Fiorentina. The 22 year old has impressed since moving to Italy in 2008 and scored 14 goals in 27 league appearances last season, as the Viola finished in mid-table.

Jovetic is keen to play in the Champions League and has spoken with new boss Vincenzo Montella, who wants to build for the future around Jovetic. Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade has said he is unaware of any interest by the Champions League winners, but nevertheless has urged Jovetic to clarify his future. The Blues have already lost Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou from their frontline and see Jovetic as a big-money replacement along with Eden Hazard from Lille.

Prade said: “He (Jovetic) must tell us what his real intentions are. We want to build our team around him. He has a contract until 2016, but he has to be the one to say what he wants. Either an offer that we cannot turn down arrives or nothing happens.”
