Bendtner hit with ban and fine
Denmark forward Nicklas Bendtner has been banned and handed a fine following his antics during the match against Portugal in Lviv last Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Arsenal striker was charged by UEFA following his goal celebration against Portugal, in which he revealed underwear that bore the name of an unofficial sponsor, which breaks European footballs governing body’s strict marketing rules during International tournaments.
After a review by UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body, they have decided to impose a one match ban on the Danish striker which will take affect during the FIFA World Cup 2014 qualification period, with Bendtner also handed a €100,000 in relation to his celebration.
There had been complaints from the Danish FA, who are sponsored by a rival sponsor, who ensured that the Arsenal striker did not wear the branded underwear in Sunday’s match with Germany.
Bendtner will now miss his side’s first qualifying match against Czech Republic on the 8th September, after seeing his side crash out of the European Championships.
