Chelsea told to forget about Jovetic by Fiorentina

Thursday 21 June 2012

Champions League winners Chelsea have been told by Fiorentina to forget about signing the club’s Montenegrin forward Stevan Jovetic, the Daily Mail has reported.

Reports had circulated that Chelsea had identified Jovetic as the next target during their summer re-building process but the Serie A club have released a statement that emphasises Fiorentina’s position that Jovetic is not for sale. A fee of £20m is mooted by the Mail but La Viola are adamant Jovetic is to remain with them, particularly as his current contract runs until 2016. The Mail adds that Chelsea were first interested in Jovetic in January but could not agree terms with Fiorentina.

Jovetic netted 14 goals in 27 league games last season and has been a Fiorentina player since 2008, when he left Partizan Belgrade for life in Italy. Jovetic, formerly Partizan’s youngest ever captain, is a key figure for the Montenegro national team and was one of the newly-independent country’s first internationals, lining up for Montenegro’s inaugural friendly with Hungary in 2007.
