Gomes sees Tottenham future after Redknapp departure

Thursday 21 June 2012

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes believes he now has a future at the club after the departure of Harry Redknapp, having fallen behind Brad Friedel in the pecking order, the Daily Mail has reported.

Gomes was Tottenham’s No. 1 until Friedel arrived at the club on a free transfer last summer, with the former Aston Villa stopper usurping his position. The Mail adds that it was little surprise Redknapp brought in a new goalkeeper after Gomes endured a “calamitous” season prior to Friedel moving to Spurs, but Gomes felt marginalised, playing only four times for Tottenham last season.

The 31-year-old was expected to leave the club this summer and begin anew elsewhere but after Redknapp was sacked last week, Gomes has said he could remain in North London to fight for his place under a new manager, most likely either Andre Villas-Boas, the former Chelsea boss, or Laurent Blanc, currently the Head Coach of France.
