Friday 22 June 2012

Real Madrid will make a £30m offer for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric after the club’s Coach, Jose Mourinho, instructed the club’s hierarchy to bring the Croatia international to La Liga, the Daily Mail has reported.

Modric was the subject of intense interest from Manchester United earlier in the summer but Mourinho is said to be confident he can swoop in before Sir Alex Ferguson clinches a deal for the 26-year-old playmaker. Modric is understood to want to leave Spurs this summer, and although chairman Daniel Levy wants to keep the player at White Hart Lane, he may not be able to resist an offer from the Spanish champions.

The money received for Modric would enable whoever is tasked with replacing Harry Redknapp as Tottenham manager to manoeuvre in the transfer market. Andre Villas-Boas and Laurent Blanc are the current front-runners, according to the Mail, but Villas-Boas is said to be unhappy a number of other candidates are being considered.
