Oxlade-Chamberlain to get new Arsenal deal

Friday 22 June 2012

England midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is to be offered a new contract at Arsenal only a year after joining the club in recognition of the strides he made last season, the Daily Mail has reported.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s revised deal will bring his weekly wage up from the £15,000 he currently earns and into the same ballpark as some of his teammates, a sign of the mark made at the Emirates Stadium by the former Southampton player. The Mail adds that Arsenal officials are happy not only with Oxlade-Chamberlain’s performances on the field but also his conduct away from it.

The 18-year-old was included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2012 despite not having appeared for his country’s senior side before. Oxlade-Chamberlain made his international bow in a pre-tournament friendly and has featured in all three of England’s matches thus far, starting the opener against France and coming off the bench against both Sweden and co-hosts Ukraine. England next play Italy in the quarter-finals on Sunday.
