Chelsea and Man City to miss out to PSG on Lavezzi

Monday 25 June 2012

Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi looks likely to reject interest from Premier League duo Manchester City and Chelsea in favour of a move to Paris Saint-Germain, the Daily Mail has reported.

A fee of £21m has been mooted as the price to take the Argentina international away from Serie A, the league in which Lavezzi has spent the last five years, all with Napoli, after moving from San Lorenzo in 2007. During his time at Napoli Lavezzi won the Coppa Italia in 2012 and featured in the Champions League as part of the Napoli side that lost to Chelsea in this year’s competition. A Lavezzi brace helped give Napoli a 3-1 first-leg advantage, only for Chelsea to overturn the deficit at Stamford Bridge on their way to winning the competition.

The 27-year-old last season scored 11 goals in 42 appearances, getting on the score sheet nine times in Serie A as Napoli ended the campaign in fifth place, outside the Champions League qualification spots but enough to ensure Europa League football in 2012-13.
