Harry Kewell, the former Leeds United and Liverpool midfielder, will return to England after leaving Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory for personal reasons, the Liverpool Echo has reported.

Kewell moved to Melbourne in summer 2011 and made 25 appearances for the club last season, scoring eight goals, but has quit the two-time A-League champions to return to England to be with his wife, whose mother is seriously ill. The Daily Mail adds that Blackburn Rovers could offer Kewell, 33, the chance to resurrect his career in English football.

The Australian came through the youth academy at Leeds, making his debut as a 17-year-old in March 1996. Kewell was part of a successful period at Elland Road, helping the club to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2000-01 before moving to Liverpool in 2003. During his time at Anfield Kewell won the Champions League in 2005 and the FA Cup in 2006, leaving Merseyside for Galatasaray in 2008. After three years in Turkey, winning the Turkish Super Cup in 2008, Kewell moved to Melbourne.
