Atletico Madrid warn Chelsea away from Falcao

Monday 25 June 2012

Chelsea’s search for a striker to replace Didier Drogba has taken another blow as Atletico Madrid have warned the Champions League winners they do not want to sell Radamel Falcao, the Daily Mail has reported.

Atletico’s city rivals Real Madrid had also been linked with a bid for the Columbian centre-forward but the club are said to be adamant Falcao is not for sale. Chelsea, who lost Didier Drogba in the close season after eight years at Stamford Bridge, had hoped to tempt Atletico into selling Falco, with the Mail suggesting Atleti could do with the money.

Falcao has only been with Atletico for a year, joining from Porto in summer 2011 and helping his new club to victory in the Europa League last season, a year after winning the same trophy with Porto under former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. In his first season with Atletico Falcao scored 33 goals in 44 appearances.
