Ex-Chelsea striker Drogba linked with shock Barcelona switch

Tuesday 26 June 2012

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba could quit new club Shanghai Shenhua just weeks after signing on in favour of a move to Spanish side Barcelona, the Daily Mail has reported.

Drogba left Chelsea at the end of the season when his contract expired and signed a big-money deal with the Chinese outfit, who also boast Nicolas Anelka in their ranks. The Mail adds that reports from China indicate there is a clause in Drogba’s Shanghai contract that allows him to leave on a free transfer for Barcelona - but no other club.

The 34-year-old agreed a two-year deal with Shanghai just weeks after scoring the winning penalty in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich, having also netted a late equaliser during normal time. Drogba spent eight years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Premier League title three times, the FA Cup four times and the League Cup three times, as well as the Champions League.
