Ivanovic wants to see Tottenham’s Modric at Chelsea

Wednesday 27 June 2012

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has revealed he hopes Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric moves to Stamford Bridge this summer, but the Daily Mirror believes the Croatian could be bound for Real Madrid, with two players heading in the opposite direction.

The Mirror adds that a number of clubs are chasing Modric, including both Manchester United and Manchester City, but Ivanovic has said joining the Champions League winners would see Modric improve as a player. He added: “I think at Chelsea he would adapt instantly and become a better player…moving to a bigger club is necessary for him to take the next step in his career.

Modric has reportedly informed the Tottenham hierarchy of his wish to leave the club this summer but in order to seal a move to Madrid, two players from the Spanish champions - former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho and ex-Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin - will have to agree to move to White Hart Lane in return.

The Mirror adds that Tottenham have already identified Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at Swansea City and had seemed set for a move to Liverpool, as Modric’s replacement.
