Ex-Chelsea boss Villas-Boas close to Tottenham job

Wednesday 27 June 2012

Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas could soon be appointed the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, in succession to Harry Redknapp, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

A clause in the terms of Villas-Boas’ departure from Stamford Bridge means he cannot officially be confirmed at White Hart Lane until July 1 but negotiations between Villas-Boas’ representatives and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy are said to be going well. The Telegraph claims suggestions Villas-Boas was unhappy at a number of other candidates being considered were wide of the mark, and after turning down an offer to coach Sao Paulo in Brazil, it is thought Villas-Boas is still keen on the Tottenham post.

Villas-Boas was sacked by Chelsea in March 2012 after only being appointed last summer, when Roman Abramovich prised the 34-year-old away from Porto to succeed Carlo Ancelotti. The Portuguese had his Chelsea contract terminated after winning 19 of his 40 games in charge, losing 10 and drawing 11.
