Wednesday 27 June 2012

Napoli have officially announced that their star striker Edinson Cavani is not for sale at any price.

Corriere dello Sport are reporting that the Serie A side’s sporting director, Riccardo Bigon, has moved swiftly the end any speculation surrounding their talisman, making it clear they will not sell the Uruguayan in any situation. He has said:

“I can confirm that Cavani is not for sale at any price. The president has made it clear to everybody what he thinks about a transfer, and Edi, too, has been very clear about his intention to stay at Napoli. We don’t have any meeting scheduled There’s no need to talk about it. We have a very close relation with Edinson.”

This news is a big blow to Premier League champions Manchester City. There had been building talk in the last few weeks that the Citizens were planning a big money move for Cavani. It comes in the same week that another of their top targets, Falcao, has also been ruled out of a potential sale.

Reported interest in the striker also came from Juventus, however Roberto Mancini has already said that Napoli have priced the striker too highly.

The speculation about Cavani is nothing to be surprised about. In two seasons at Napoli he has managed to find the net 66 times in 96 appearances for the club. These stats are sure to attract interest from Europe’s elite but those in charge at Napoli want to see these impressive figures grow at their club.
