Giroud Arsenal deal done despite Chelsea interest

Wednesday 27 June 2012

Olivier Giroud has revealed just why he has recently completed a switch to the Arsenal also revealing interest from London rivals, Chelsea.

A report from Sky Sports has the Gunners new boy discussing his future in North London and his prospects in English football. The 25-year-old said:

“Why did I choose Arsenal rather than Chelsea? Because it is a club I love. And I thought it was easier for my adaptation. Arsenal is a great club, the facilities are wonderful, but I feel it is a club that takes big care before signing a payer, considering human values. There are French players. There is also Arsene Wenger who let me understand he really wanted me.”

It’s not a surprise that the Arsenal manager was a major attraction in bringing the French international to the Emirates, his reputation in France eclipsing that of almost any manager.

The new Arsenal signing comes to England with an impressive goal scoring record – scoring 33 goals in 73 league games for Montpellier over two seasons. This information is sure to frustrate Chelsea fans after the revelation that the European Champions were keen on signing Giroud – the Blues have been in the hunt for a new striker all summer to replace Didier Drogba and provide back up to Fernando Torres.

One concern for Arsenal’s fans is the growing interest in star striker Robin Van Persie now that they have signed two new attackers. But Giroud is adamant that he has no intentions of replacing last year’s top scorer and looks forward to playing alongside him.
