Chelsea trailing Modric as Madrid interest wanes

Friday 29 June 2012

Luka Modric remains a target for Champions League winners Chelsea but interest in the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder from Real Madrid has lessened over the last week, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

The newspaper adds that Tottenham are prepared for Modric to leave this summer but chairman Daniel Levy will not let the 26-year-old leave for anything less than what he believes is his full value. The Telegraph claims Spurs will not accept less than £50m for the Croatia international.

Chelsea were dogged pursuers of Modric a year ago, having a series of bids rejected by Levy, with the Telegraph revealing both that one such offer was turned down shortly before the close of the summer transfer window, and that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich vowed to Modric that he would pick up his interest again this summer.

Madrid’s interest in Modric is said to have declined after Nuri Sahin, the Turkey midfielder, refused to be included in any offer as a makeweight. Manchester United are also believed to maintain interest in Modric.
