Chelsea to battle Napoli for Pereira

By Andrew Tuft

Friday 29 June 2012

Chelsea will have to overcome competition from Serie A side Napoli if they are to make Alvaro Pereira their latest signing of the summer, the Daily Express has reported.

Pereira, currently with Portuguese side Porto, was linked with a move to Chelsea a year ago when ex-Porto Coach Andre Villas-Boas took over at Stamford Bridge but the transfer never went through. Pereira duly signed a new contract to stay with Porto but is said to have made it clear he would like to leave the club this summer.

Chelsea’s interest has lasted longer than Villas-Boas did as manager but the Italian Press is claiming Napoli have made an offer for the Uruguayan, who is capable of playing on the left of defence, midfield or attack. The fee mooted this summer is just under £13m, some way short of the £16.6m the Express notes Napoli rejected from Chelsea this time last year.
