Arsenal turn down Juventus offer for van Persie

Tuesday 03 July 2012

Reports in Italy have said that Arsenal have rejected an offer of £8m from Juventus for their captain and striker Robin van Persie, according to Yahoo Sports.

Van Persie’s contract expires next summer and although negotiations between the club and the player have been held no announcement of an extension has been made. Yahoo Sports adds that as well as Juventus, sides such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are trailing the Netherlands international.

Arsenal have already made two new additions to their forwards ranks this summer, bringing in FC Koln’s Germany international forward Lukas Podolski and France centre-forward Olivier Giroud from Montpellier.

Van Persie is in demand after netting 36 goals in all competitions for Arsenal last summer but the 28-year-old could not inspire the Netherlands at Euro 2012 as Bert van Marwijk’s side exited the tournament at the group stage without recording a victory against Portugal, Denmark or the Czech Republic.
