Liverpool to meet Ba Newcastle release clause

Tuesday 03 July 2012

Demba Ba could be set for a £7m move from Newcastle United to Liverpool as the Daily Mail reports Brendan Rodgers will meet a release clause in the Senegalese striker’s contract that allows Ba to move on at a cut price.

If the offer is received before July 31 then the Magpies must accept, providing Rodgers with an opening to bolster his strike force. Ba is also interesting Tottenham Hotspur despite the White Hart Lane club currently being without a manager.

Ba joined Newcastle on a free transfer from West Ham United last summer, going on to score 16 goals for Alan Pardew’s side last season, but the 27-year-old only scored once after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations in January. Despite Ba’s dry spell Newcastle still finished fifth in the Premier League table, three places above Liverpool and in the qualification places for the forthcoming season’s Europa League competition.
