Villas-Boas believes his reputation remains intact after Chelsea spell
The new Head Coach of Tottenham Hotspur, Andre Villas-Boas, has revealed he believes his reputation remains intact despite his short and unhappy spell across London with Chelsea, Reuters has reported.
Villas-Boas was sacked by Roman Abramovich in March after a poor run of form left the Blues out of the title race, struggling to finish in the top four and on the brink of elimination from the Champions League after a 3-1 first-leg defeat by Napoli. A 1-0 away defeat to West Bromwich Albion eventually did for Villas-Boas but the 34-year-old has said he does not feel he has to re-build his image at Tottenham.
“It's never a one-person failure… there were mistakes that I have made which I have learned but the decision to terminate the project is not mine, it is a decision from the owner of Chelsea,” Villas-Boas said, adding: “It's not a mission of restoring my reputation, it's a mission to put Tottenham back on track with titles.”
Villas-Boas noted that Tottenham were a factor in the title race for the first time in a long while last season, when at the turn of the year the competition was shaping up to be a three-way fight between eventual champions Manchester City, former champions Manchester United and Spurs. Tottenham eventually fell away, however, but Villas-Boas pointed to that level as where he hopes to lead his new employers.
