Villas-Boas moves for Adrian to bolster Tottenham attack

Friday 13 July 2012

After completing the signings of defender Jan Vertonghen and midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson Tottenham Hotspur’s new Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will turn his attention to another area of the pitch with a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Adrian, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Tottenham can currently only call on Jermain Defoe in attack after Louis Saha’s contract expired and Emmanuel Adebayor returned to Manchester City following the end of his loan spell. Adebayor is expected to return on a full-time basis once a deal is worked out between the player, the selling club and Tottenham but the Mirror believes Adebayor could be joined by Adrian with Defoe potentially moving on.

The 24-year-old Spain international has a £16m release clause and Villas-Boas would have to meet it to force Atletico into selling the forward. Adrian scored 15 goals last season, eight of which came in the Europa League as Atletico claimed the trophy. The former Deportivo striker also has two international caps to his name.
