Aquilani to fight for Liverpool place as Milan return ruled out
Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani will attempt to revive his Liverpool career, after returning to the Anfield club from two loan spells in Serie A, according to the Daily Mail.
The 28-year-old failed to live up to the hype surrounding him when he made his £17million move to Anfield in 2009 and has since spent loan spells at Roma and most recently AC Milan. However, despite reports he was set to stay at the San Siro – his agent Franco Zavaglia confirmed the midfielder will resume his career with the Merseyside club.
Speaking to www.calcionews24.com, Zavaglia said: “Aquilani will remain at Liverpool, 'He has a contract and hence there is nothing new.”
Despite appearing for AC Milan heavily last season, the Rossoneri have decided against offering the player a permanent home which has left Aquilani with no choice but to return to Anfield where he managed just 26 appearances for Liverpool.
His agent verified that the player would not be returning to AC Milan adding: “I would say that at this point the chances that he could go back to Milan are impossible.”
New manager Brendan Rodgers has not made his feelings known on the midfielders return to Anfield however with a different style of play being implemented, Aquilani will have to return to the form that saw then boss Rafael Benitez part £17million for the player.
