In the wake of a reported third bid from Chelsea for Wigan Athletic forward Victor Moses, manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed he has held talks over the player, reports the Daily Mail.

Earlier in the week, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan revealed to journalists that Chelsea had made an improved offer for Moses. However the bid was below the Lancashire club’s valuation of the player and was swiftly knocked back.

No official word has come out of Stamford Bridge regarding interest in the 21-year-old but Di Matteo has now confirmed the two clubs are in negotiations for the winger. Moses impressed Di Matteo last season, the Italian revealed, proving a catalyst in the Latics’ Premier League survival.

Speaking after his side’s 4-2 victory over MLS outfit Seattle Sounders, Di Matteo told journalists: “(It's) something that the clubs are discussing but at the moment he is a Wigan player. He had a good season last season, he is young and an interesting prospect.

Moses is thought to be a replacement for Florent Malouda, who is reportedly close to leaving Chelsea. Reports suggest Di Matteo will tell the player he is no longer wanted at the club.

With Moses having only one year left on his contract, Wigan are holding out for a bid close to their valuation of the player but Chelsea will not be held to ransom for the former Crystal Palace player. Di Matteo first tried to sign Moses when he was West Bromwich Albion manager.
