Man City striker Dzeko denies Milan link

Friday 20 July 2012

Despite speculation suggesting Milan are close to signing Manchester City striker Eden Dzeko, the Bosnian has denied speaking to the Italian side, reports the Manchester Evening News .

Having lost striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain in this week, reports had claimed that a deal to bring Dzeko to Milan where ’70 % done’. However City denied such a deal existed and now the Bosnian international has moved to distance himself from the rumours.

When asked whether a deal was in the offing, the 26-year-old said: “Following speculation about my departure from City, and the decisions of individuals who say they are my agent, I would like to inform everyone that I have not spoken with Milan.

Dzeko appeared for City on 28 occasions in the Premier League last season and contributed 14 goals to the title winning side, however with fellow Milan target Carlos Tevez back amongst the starting XI, Dzeko saw his playing time decrease, prompting speculation of a move away from the Etihad stadium.

Manchester City paid £27m for Dzeko in 2010 and despite a slow start to life in England, he has settled in the area and said of City: “I will focus entirely on this club and take no notice of speculation in the media, especially if it comes from people who have nothing to do with me.

Reports in Italy suggest the Rossoneri simply cannot afford Dzeko or any high-profile players and this week Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani insisted they must focus on developing their own young players rather than buying in big names.
