Cech encouraged by young and hungry Chelsea

Tuesday 24 July 2012

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has praised what he sees as the emergence of a young and hungry side at Stamford Bridge, with the experienced goalkeeper believing a new era is about to get underway at the club, according to the Daily Telegraph.

This summer Roberto Di Matteo has overseen the arrival of Eden Hazard, 21 and 23-year-old Marko Marin, with Oscar, a 20-year-old Brazil international expected to complete his move to the club by the end of the week. The Telegraph adds that Chelsea maintain an interest in Germany forward Andre Schurrle and the captain of Spain’s Olympic team, Marseille right-back Cesar Azpilicueta, further adding to the youthful flavour of the club’s summer transfers.

Cech remarked that the situation reminded him of the state of the club when he joined from Rennes in 2004. “It was pretty similar,” Cech said, adding: “You had the guys who had been here and had experience, and we were seven or eight new players coming in, completely hungry and ready to show we were worth it.

In his eight years at Chelsea Cech has won the Premier League three times, the FA Cup four times, the League Cup twice and the Champions League once.
