Tottenham to rival Chelsea for Willian

Wednesday 25 July 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas could be about to get one over his former employers Chelsea by beating the Champions League winners to the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Willian, according to the Daily Mail.

Willian is said to be a long-standing target of Chelsea, who had an offer rejected by Shakhtar for the player earlier this summer. The Brazilian is understood to be keen on a move to Stamford Bridge but could now face the choice of a switch instead to White Hart Lane.

Shakhtar are thought to be demanding £19m to part with the 23-year-old and Tottenham, who had lined up a transfer for Internacional midfielder Oscar before Chelsea gazumped their London rivals, could be willing to meet the asking price of the Ukrainian side.

Willian has been at Shakhtar since 2007, winning the Ukrainian Premier League in 2008, 2010 and 2011, the Ukrainian Cup in 2008 and 2011 and the UEFA Cup in 2009. He also has two caps for Brazil.
