Wenger expects more Arsenal signings

Thursday 26 July 2012

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted it is likely that the Gunners will make further moves in the transfer market, the Guardian has reported, after the purchases of strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud. Malaga winger Santi Cazorla has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.

Wenger also pointed to the returns from injury of midfielders Abou Diaby and Jack Wilshere as being like new signings, after the pair missed most of the last campaign in the case of Diaby, and the entire campaign in the case of Wilshere.

But the manager confirmed the club was working on more conventional new additions, although he was reluctant to go any further than acknowledge the wheels were in motion.

I am ready to talk a lot, but not a lot about transfers, because it is a very fragile subject and a very secret subject,” Wenger said, adding: “But we are not at the end of it [transfers]. We will still bring players in.

Cazorla, the Spain international who featured for La Roja at Euro 2012, is said to have agreed terms on his move to the Emirates Stadium despite Arsenal not yet agreeing a fee with troubled Malaga.

The Spanish side are facing the possibility of demotion from La Liga and exclusion from the Champions League as players have gone unpaid. The financial situation could force them to sell big-earning players, including Cazorla, with Arsenal set to capitalise.
