Tottenham boss Villas-Boas considering move for Porto youngster Atsu

Thursday 26 July 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas could give his side a youthful flavour by turning to his former employers Porto and signing winger Christian Atsu, the Daily Mail has reported.

Atsu, 21, spent last season on loan at Rio Ave and is said to have impressed observers with his form. A left-sided player and Ghana international, Atsu has yet to make his first team debut for Porto but scored six goals in 27 games for Rio Ave during his loan spell.

Villas-Boas was the first to include Atsu in the senior set-up at Porto, naming the then-17-year-old as a substitute in May 2011, but Atsu never made it on to the field as Porto won 2-0 in an away match at Maritimo.

Another youngster said to be interesting Villas-Boas is Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, who has also caught the eye of Queens Park Rangers, the Mail adds. The R’s are seeking a loan deal for the 17-year-old but could face competition for his signature from Spurs.
