Saturday 28 July 2012

Uruguayan playmaker Gaston Ramirez has edged ever closer to a move to the Premier League, as his agent confirmed they are in talks with an English club, rumoured to be Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old is currently in London, on Olympic duty, where he scored his country’s opening goal in the 2-1 win over the UAE, with a stunning free-kick. It seems his performances for Bologna last season have put him firmly in Liverpool’s sights, as Brendan Rodgers looks to bolster his attacking options.

The £20m-rated player has admirers across the continent, including Barcelona and both Milan clubs rumoured to be monitoring the player, but Liverpool remain in pole position to sign him.

Ramirez has impressed in the Serie A since his move from his home club Penarol in 2010, and some stunning performances have seen him emerge as one of the hottest prospects in South American football and his experience in a competitive league make him an attractive option.

The player’s agent, Pablo Betancourt, told Mercato: “Gaston is ready to leave Italy - so much so I am in England for talks with a Premier League club, He is one of the most important players in Uruguay, so there are no shortage of offers.”

Were Ramirez to move to Liverpool, he would join fellow international team-mates Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates at Anfield.
