Chelsea have Azpilicueta bid rejected

Monday 30 July 2012

Chelsea have had a £6 million bid for Marseille right back Cesar Azpilicueta rejected.

According to the Metro the Ligue 1 side are demanding £10 million for the 23-year-old but the Blues are wary of paying so much for the Spanish full back, choosing instead to monitor his progress at the Olympics before making a final decision.

Roberto Di Matteo and co are in the hunt for a right sided defender as they look to replace the loss of Jose Boswinga whose contracted expired at the end of the season. There had been speculation that the European Champions were in the hunt for Lille’s Mathieu Debuchy and Inter Milan’s Maicon but both of those deals have fallen through with both players looking set to sign elsewhere.

The London based side face stiff competition for Azpilicueta with Newcastle and Arsenal both monitoring the situation, however the Tyneside team may cool their interest with Debuchy seemingly on his way to St James’ Park.
