Arsenal striker Chamakh a Besiktas target claims manager

Monday 30 July 2012

Marouane Chamakh is on the verge of a move away from Arsenal according to Besiktas coach, Samet Aybaba.

Reported by Goal, Aybaba has said that the Turkish club are set to sign the Moroccan as they continue to bolster their squad for the forthcoming campaign.

He said: “There are many players on our list. We need to be careful when it comes to transferring players. It’s obvious our club has financial problems. We are interested in Tuncay Sanli and Marouane Chamkh. We are close to getting a striker.”

However, reports had surfaced in the week that any deal for the Gunners’ front man could be stalled by problems caused by Ricardo Quaresma. The Portuguese winger is said to have been creating issues at the club but Aybaba has refuted these claims by saying: “The problem is merely financial. We hope to reach a conclusion soon.”

Chamakh has struggled to make an impact at Arsenal since arriving in 2010 having only scored 8 goals in 40 Premier League matches. He has recently said that he wants to fight for his place despite the signings of Lukas Podolsko and Olivier Giroud but it would seem that Arsene Wenger and co are happy to let the striker go as they continue to rebuild the squad.
