Liverpool agree loan fee with West Ham for Carroll

Tuesday 31 July 2012

Andy Carroll could be a step closer to leaving Liverpool after the Daily Telegraph reported the Reds have agreed a loan deal with West Ham United for the England international.

The Hammers will pay £2m to take Carroll on a season-long loan and, if Sam Allardyce’s newly-promoted side manage to avoid relegation, they will have the option of signing Carroll permanently for £17m.

While Liverpool are thought to have agreed to the deal Carroll has not, and indeed is said to have told friends that he would prefer a return to Newcastle United if he cannot remain at Anfield.

For their part, Newcastle have made a loan offer for the player of their own but saw their approach swiftly rebuffed by Liverpool, but the Magpies’ offer did not include a fee upfront and the deal included the option to pay £13m for Carroll, which West Ham have subsequently topped. The Telegraph adds that Newcastle are now prepared to wait for Carroll to decide his own future.
