Man City bonuses for Premier League victory revealed

Tuesday 31 July 2012

It would seem the celebrations from the Manchester City players on the last day of the season were not just down to their first ever Premier League title win but also the extra cash that win guaranteed Published today and reported by the Belfast Telegraph, the newly crowned English champions have earned a total of £6.2m to be shared between the 24 players that featured for the team over the course of the season.

In effect, Sergio Aguero’s stoppage time goal not only won the Citizens their first title since 1968 but was worth £1.5m to the squad bonus kitty, with the other bonus totals at £4.7m for second place and £4.2m for third.

However, a better performance in the Champions League could have seen their bonus raised to a figure closer to £7.25m depending on their progression - getting knocked out in the group stage denied them any bonus at all for their European performances.

The share of the £6.2m has been made on a pro-rata basis with each single league performance being worth £11,472. That means that Joe Hart, who was the only squad member to appear all 38 games, will have earned £446,212 on top of his set wage. Even those who did not get much game time, like David Pizzaro, will receive an extra £58,710 for his five appearances.

All the bonuses come courtesy of owner Sheikh Mansour’s personal wealth. He has already spent £452m in transfer fees alone over the last four years to power City to success.
