Hughes plays down QPR link to Man Utd's Berbatov
Mark Hughes has moved to cool speculation linking Queens Park Rangers with a move for Dimitar Berbatov. The Daily Mail have reported that the Welshman does not wish to confirm any rumours linking his club with someone else’s players, and only when a deal is on will he discuss it further.
He said: “At this time of year, there are a lot of names flying around. But we prefer to get the job done, get the business done, and then we announce it.”
The Bulgarian striker has publicly admitted that he wishes to leave the Premier League runners-up but so far he remains at Old Trafford. A fee in the region of £5m has been attached to the 31-year-old but as yet there have no official bids for him.
Signing for Sir Alex Ferguson in 2008 for £31m the centre-forward has gone on to play 108 Premier League games, scoring 48 times. But despite his strong stats he and has found himself on the fringes of the first team since the arrival of Mexican forward Javier Hernandez and breakthrough of academy product Danny Welbeck.
Ferguson has said he would be happy to keep Berbatov should the striker choose to stay.
