Chelsea striker Lukaku wants Premier League loan

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has told the club that if he is to go out on loan this season, he will only consider a transfer to another Premier League club, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Fulham have been mentioned in connection with the Belgium international, as have Werder Bremen. Lukaku was insistent that if he does not have a short-term future at Stamford Bridge, he must at least remain in the Premier League in order to help his development as a player.

Lukaku said: “I did not sign for Chelsea to go into another championship. Now I must play. It all depends on the choice of the coach and myself. I have to move on to another level. I will do everything to get better.

The 19-year-old moved to Chelsea from Anderlecht a year ago but struggled to impose himself at his new club last season, making only 12 appearances, including a single league start, and scoring just once.

Prior to his Chelsea move Lukaku was prolific in Belgium, netting 41 goals in 98 games despite his tender years. In his final full season with Anderlecht Lukaku, then aged 17, scored 20 goals in 50 appearances.
