Mancini calls for more from Man City’s Balotelli

Thursday 02 August 2012

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini wants to see Mario Balotelli reach higher stands in the coming Premier League season, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that the striker has been urged to replicate his Euro 2012 form on the domestic front.

Balotelli ended the summer tournament as joint-top scorer, with Golden Boot winner Fernando Torres, after scoring three goals in six games during Italy’s run to the final. The Azzurri were eventually dispatched 4-0 by a rampant Spain side but Balotelli was rated by Mancini as one of the competition’s best players.

Now Mancini has called on Balotelli to enter more performances like those seen in Poland and Ukraine and less like those seen too often in the Premier League last year. Balotelli was also frequently at the centre of controversy on and off the field, with Mancini adding that he hopes Balotelli’s displays for his country are a sign of a growing maturity.

If he understands he cannot do what he maybe did last season, against Arsenal and against Tottenham, and he thinks only to play football, he can do really well,” Mancini said, adding: “I think that he did well in the Euros. I think he played well, but I also hope those performances can help him to improve. Then he can understand that, if he improves his behaviour, he can be better at his job.
