Anderson keen to impress at Man Utd
Manchester United midfielder Anderson has promised to get his head down and prove his worth this season after five years of struggling to make the impression his transfer had promised. Reported in the Manchester Evening News, the Brazilian has spoken about his time at Old Trafford - a time plagued by injuries - and about his future plans at the club.
He said: “This season it’s very important to that I don’t have any more injuries. I started last season with no problems, but then I started to feel my knee a bit. It’s just one of things - some players have injuries and others don’t. It’s unfortunate it happened to me, but I just got to get my down and work as has I could to get back.”
Signing for £20m from Porto five years ago, Anderson arrived with high expectations, Sir Alex Ferguson once proclaiming that the midfielder had the potential to become the best player in the world.
However, he has yet to live up to that promise having scored just four goals in 83 league appearances. But at only 24 years of age he has plenty of time to change the perceived lack of growth since his arrival, and he plans to show just what he can do this season by repaying the faith showed in him.
“I just want to play. This season is very important to I know I have to be very focused on my football. I’ll still have a laugh and a joke with my teammates, but I know I must be really focused on my job,” Anderson said, adding: “ I really want to show what I can do, produce my best and help the team. I know the boss and my teammates believe in me. I’ve just had bad luck. I want to improve as much as I can and help the team win trophies.”
