Man City to make De Rossi first summer transfer

Saturday 04 August 2012

Manchester City are eager to make Roma and Italy midfielder Daniele De Rossi their first signing of the summer, as Roberto Mancini seeks to bolster the Premier League champions with a £20m move, the Daily Mail has reported.

City have so far been quiet on the transfer front but Mancini has hankered after the 29-year-old for over a year. Despite De Rossi signing a new Roma contract in February he remains on Mancini’s wanted list and the Mail believes the manager will make his move in the very near future.

De Rossi is a product of the Roma youth system and has spent his entire career with the club from the Italian capital, playing nearly 300 games and winning the Coppa Italia twice in the process. De Rossi was also part of the Italy side that won the World Cup in 2006, scoring in the penalty shootout. The final was De Rossi’s first match after a four-game suspension following a red card for striking United States forward Brian McBride.
