Nolan wants to see Carroll quit Liverpool for West Ham

Monday 06 August 2012

West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan has admitted he would love to see his former Newcastle United teammate Andy Carroll quit Liverpool and head south to the Premier League new boys, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Nolan and Carroll became close friends during their time in the North East but both have since departed, with Nolan moving to the capital to join up with his former Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce, who was also briefly in charge at St. James’ Park.

The pair steered West Ham back to the Premier League while Carroll was toiling unhappily at Liverpool and this summer has seen the England striker linked with an Anfield exit. A potential return to Newcastle was mooted but has not yet come close to materialising, while West Ham are the other strong suitors for the centre-forward.

New Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had publically admitted Carroll may not fit into his vision for Liverpool, sparking off a race to sign the 23-year-old on loan. Nolan believes West Ham would be a good fit for Carroll, and added that he would love to see his old colleague at Upton Park.

Nolan said: “I would be delighted if Andy Carroll would come and join us here. I am not too sure whether Brendan (Rogers) will let him out but there is lots of speculation but there always is surrounding Andy. If there is a chance we would be in the reckoning with him because he is such a quality player.
