Chelsea want double right-back swoop for Wallace and Azpilicueta
Chelsea are expected to make a £5m offer to sign Fluminense right-back Wallace, the Daily Mirror has reported, as well as stepping up their interest in Marseille’s Spanish defender Cesar Azpilicueta. Roberto Di Matteo is seeking a replacement for Jose Bosingwa, who left the club this summer.
The Blues already own a 40% share of Wallace’s contract as a legacy of the deal that took Deco back to Brazil, but the 18-year-old is now attracting interest from a number of European clubs, including Italian pair Napoli and Juventus. That has caused Chelsea to consider completing the deal for Wallace, but even if he does arrive at Stamford Bridge he is not expected to become a first team regular yet.
Instead, Chelsea are continuing their pursuit of Azpilicueta, known as Azpi for short. Negotiations with Azpi’s French employers are continuing but Chelsea are likely to have to raise their offer to closer to Marseille’s £8.5m asking price before a deal goes ahead.
