New Liverpool contract triples Suarez’s wages

Wednesday 08 August 2012

Luis Suarez has signed a new contract with Liverpool, tripling his weekly wage in the process, according to the Daily Mirror. The Uruguay forward was previously paid £40,000 per week by the Premier League side but his new deal takes his weekly earnings past the £100,000 mark.

The pay packet puts Suarez on par with captain Steven Gerrard amongst Liverpool’s highest-paid players and puts an end to speculation linking former Ajax striker with a transfer out of Merseyside. European giants including the oil-money financed Paris Saint-Germain and Serie A champions Juventus had in recent months been mentioned as suitors for Suarez.

Both PSG and Juve could have offered Suarez Champions League football, but the 25-year-old insisted after putting pen to paper that he wants to play in that competition with Liverpool. Meanwhile, manager Brendan Rodgers added that he wants to take Liverpool into the Champions League, and players such as Suarez will be key to achieving that goal.
