Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is understood to be considering an offer for Celtic’s South Korea international Ki Sung-yeung, the Daily Mail has reported.

The newspaper adds that Arsenal scouts first became aware of the 23-year-old last season as he was performing for the Glasgow side. Ki is said to have particularly impressed Arsenal’s chief scout, Steve Rowley, who could recommend the midfielder to Wenger. A fee of £9m has been mooted.

Ki has also attracted interest from another part of London, as Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes seeks further additions to his squad. Ki - known as the South Korean Steven Gerrard in his native country - has impressed throughout the Olympic Games, helping his side to the semi-finals.

South Korea were beaten at that stage by Brazil, however, and now face Asian rivals Japan in the Bronze medal match. Ki previously scored the decisive penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out with Team GB.
