Rooney hails new Man Utd teammate Kagawa
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hailed the signing of Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa, claiming that the arrival of the former Borussia Dortmund player could help the England international to his best ever season, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Last season Rooney matched his personal best with a goals tally of 34 but Kagawa is a known and regular creator of goals, racking up dozens of assists in his two years in Germany. The pair have only spent 15 minutes playing together thus far in pre-season, but Rooney admits he likes what he has seen from his new teammate.
“Shinji's settled quite quickly,” Rooney said, adding: “He's a talented player, he likes to get on the ball and keep it simple.” The former Everton striker added that he was excited at the prospect of playing with Kagawa, and relishing in particular the assists the 23-year-old is likely to lay on.
Kagawa moved to United for a fee in the region of £17m, the Mirror claims, with the newspaper adding that Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to deploy his new signing in a free role behind a lone striker.
