Premier League clubs alerted as Llorente seeks Bilbao exit

A series of Premier League clubs are paying close attention to the future of Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente after the Spain international told his current club he wants to leave this summer, the Daily Mirror has reported. Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have all been linked with the 27-year-old in the past and Llorente is thought to be seeking Champions League football.

That would appear to rule Spurs out of the running but new Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas is in the market for a centre-forward after failing to tie down City striker Emmanuel Adebayor to a permanent deal.

Llorente was also mentioned as a possible arrival at Spurs’ rivals Arsenal if captain Robin van Persie was sold this summer. Van Persie however remains at the Emirates Stadium and Arsene Wenger has already drafted two forwards, Germany international Lukas Podolski and France striker Olivier Giroud.

Manchester City, meanwhile, who had been chasing van Persie but recently admitted the Dutchman was unlikely to sign for them, are said to be considering Llorente as an alternative option.
