Tottenham to push through Damiao transfer

Wednesday 08 August 2012

Tottenham Hotspur Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas will end his search for a striker by signing Internacional’s Brazil Olympic squad centre-forward Leandro Damiao, the Guardian has reported.

Spurs will look to capitalise on the sporting partnership arranged with Damiao’s club in an effort to complete the deal with as few complications as possible. Tottenham previously bought midfielder Sandro from Internacional in 2010.

Villas-Boas spent time in Brazil prior to replacing Harry Redknapp in the White Hart Lane dugout, and can currently only call on one senior striker, Jermain Defoe. A permanent move for Manchester City’s Emmanuel Adebayor, who enjoyed a successful loan at Spurs last season, has foundered, despite the two clubs agreeing a fee in the region of £5.5m. Adebayor and Tottenham have even agreed personal terms but the sticking point is believed to be a termination bonus the striker is due on leaving the Premier League champions.

If Damiao does come to England he will find familiar faces in the Premier League. As well as Sandro at Tottenham there will be Oscar, the former Internacional midfielder signed by Chelsea this summer.
