Mancini is Man City's most important signing, says Toure

Yaya Toure has offered his manager a huge compliment by claiming that the new contract agreed with Roberto Mancini sis the most important signing Manchester City will make this summer. Toure, reported in the Daily Mail, has been speaking about the new season and the confidence he has in his manager to lead the club to more and more success.

He said: “We are ready to defend our title. Our captain and manager have agreed new long-term deals and it is important for this club to have stability at all levels. It means there will be no change or disruption to what has proved a winning formula and for the long term that can only be good.

On his own ambition he added: “On a personal level, I’m very happy because I want to win many more trophies with City and the manager has the same mentality as I do - he wants to win everything with this club and so do I.

City will be looking to make this season a hat-trick of silverware years. Last season they won the Premier League thanks to a dramatic last minute strike from Sergio Aguero against QPR, the year before they won the FA Cup against Stoke.

This year they are expected to have more emphasis on the Champions League after a dismal campaign last year that saw them exit at the group stages.

Whilst the contenders to City’s title - such as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United - have spent big this summer, the current champions have refrained from adding to their squad. They were in contention to sign Robin van Persie but Mancini claims to have pulled the plug on that deal with the striker now looking set to move to the red half of Manchester.

City kick off their title defense away to Southampton on the opening weekend, but first they must face a new look Chelsea at Villa Park for the Community Shield on Sunday.
