Roma warn Man City over De Rossi offer

Friday 10 August 2012

Serie A side Roma have told Manchester City not to bother bidding for midfielder Daniele De Rossi as not even an “indecent” sum would tempt the club into selling, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Sporting director Walter Sabatini had previously been seen to suggest Roma would sell De Rossi at the right price, but the official has moved to clarify his remarks. Sabatini said: “I merely pointed out that in all of football when a crazy offer comes in then we will listen and evaluate.

But we are not looking for anyone to buy De Rossi, because he is extraordinarily important for us, a player who is irreplaceable and so it would be difficult to even look at an 'indecent proposal.’

De Rossi has spent his entire career with Roma, making his debut in 2001-02 before establishing himself in the side a few years later. The 29-year-old has gone on to make nearly 400 appearances for the capital city side, winning the Coppa Italia twice and five times finishing as runner-up in the league. De Rossi was not a first team member when Roma won the title under Fabio Capello in 2000-01.

International level has brought more success, however, as De Rossi was part of the Italy side which won the World Cup in 2006 and reached the final of Euro 2012 this summer. De Rossi spent part of that tournament playing as one of three centre-backs, a position he first experienced last season with Roma.
